On May 2nd and 3rd, 2025, Santa Maria Health School (ESSSM) marked a significant milestone in the ClinicalModelling project by conducting its first real-world testing session of the innovative video self-modelling methodology. This hands-on session provided students from the Post-Graduation Course in Surgical Instrumentation (ISCED 5) with the opportunity to experience cutting-edge smart glasses technology during practical activities, such as setting up the surgical table.

The testing session focused on integrating smart glasses into the educational process, aiming to enhance students’ practical skills through innovative reflective learning techniques. The use of video self-modelling allowed students to review their actions in real-time, fostering self-assessment and skill development. By visualising their own procedures, students were able to identify areas for improvement and refine their techniques.

These lessons are designed to equip nursing and surgical professionals with the skills necessary to use smart glasses effectively, enhancing their learning experience and strengthening their lifelong learning mindset.

A Commitment to Quality and Innovation

The ClinicalModelling project continues to be guided by the principles of the European Qualifications Framework (EQF) and the European Quality Assurance Reference Framework for Vocational Education and Training (EQAVET). These frameworks ensure that the project’s educational methods are of the highest quality and effectiveness, aligning with best practices in Continuous VET (Vocational Education and Training).

This phase, led by University of Ljubljana (UL) under WP4, with technical support from SurgeonMate, reflects the consortium’s commitment to innovative educational practices that bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world clinical experience.

With the successful testing of smart glasses and video self-modelling, the next phase of the project will focus on integrating these tools into real classroom settings. This transition represents a major step in the project’s mission to revolutionize healthcare training, offering a dynamic and interactive learning experience that strengthens the professional competencies of students and healthcare professionals alike. By embracing digital learning tools and innovative methodologies, ClinicalModelling is set to make a lasting impact on surgical education and healthcare professional development, setting the stage for a future where technology and education work hand-in-hand to improve patient care.
