The ClinicalModelling Project is at the forefront of transforming healthcare education by integrating innovative technologies like video modelling and video-self modelling. Two recent key events, successfully organised by Santa Maria Health School, have provided valuable insights into the implementation of these methodologies across Europe.
First Peer Learning Event – February 2025
The First Peer Learning Event, held virtually, was an important milestone in the ClinicalModelling project. Organised by Santa Maria Health School, the event gathered 15 participants from across Europe. The session focused on sharing insights from early adopters of video-self modelling and smart glasses in healthcare training.
Key outcomes from the event included:
- Insights from Santa Maria Health School’s Implementation: The school shared their experiences using smart glasses in Basic Life Support courses, providing hands-on insights for the wider group.
- Collaborative Planning for Upcoming Events: Discussions focused on scheduling and preparing for future events, with an emphasis on refining training methods and gathering more feedback from students and educators.
The first Peer Learning Event set the tone for future collaboration, ensuring that the methodology would be continuously refined and adapted across institutions.

Second Peer Learning Event – May 2025
Following the success of the first event, the Second Peer Learning Event further strengthened the project’s collaboration network. Organised again by Santa Maria Health School and hosted virtually, this event brought together 23 participants from several leading universities and healthcare institutions. The primary goal of the meeting was to hear directly from students and faculty about their experiences with the video-modelling methodology.
Highlights included:
- Student Perspectives: Students from Portugal, Spain, and Slovenia shared their hands-on experiences using smart glasses and reviewing their own performances. The feedback highlighted the effectiveness of video feedback in helping students refine their practical skills, especially in complex procedures like surgical hand washing and catheter insertion.
- Institutional Insights: Educators discussed how video modelling has become an essential tool for enhancing clinical training, helping students gain critical self-reflection skills and improve their procedural performance.

These events marked an important step towards embedding these innovative methods into the curricula of healthcare training programmes across Europe. The shared experiences, lessons learned, and collaborative insights will inform future actions and ensure the sustainability of video-modelling methodologies in healthcare education.
The ClinicalModelling project continues to drive innovation, empowering students and educators to enhance learning through advanced technology. Stay connected for more updates on the project’s progress and upcoming events.
