May 12th is a special day dedicated to celebrating the invaluable contributions of nurses across the globe. International Nurses Day (IND) is more than just a celebration—it’s a call to recognise the challenges faced by nurses and the critical role they play in strengthening healthcare systems worldwide.

This date is celebrated ach year, to honor the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale (born May 12, 1820), the founder of modern nursing. Florence Nightingale was a British social reformer, statistician, and the founder of professional nursing. Her work during the Crimean War (1853-1856), where she improved hygiene and sanitation in hospitals, drastically reduced mortality rates and established the foundation for modern nursing practices.

Nightingale was also known for using statistical analysis to improve public health and hospital practices. She used her skills in statistics and data visualization to show the connection between sanitation, hygiene, and the health of soldiers. Her efforts led to the development of sanitary nursing practices and healthcare reforms, making her one of the most important figures in the history of healthcare. Her legacy lives on in the continuing efforts to improve healthcare systems and in the recognition of the crucial role nurses play in ensuring the health and well-being of individuals and communities worldwide.

This year’s theme, “Our Nurses. Our Future. Caring for nurses strengthens economies,” highlights the importance of supporting the health and well-being of nurses. As the backbone of healthcare systems, nurses are central to improving patient care, enhancing health outcomes, and ensuring resilient communities. However, they also face numerous challenges—physical, mental, emotional, and ethical—that can impact their ability to perform at their best.

At ClinicalModelling, we are committed to empowering nurses and healthcare professionals through the development of clinical modelling tools designed to improve workflow efficiency and patient care outcomes. Our project supports learning in the health sector through video modelling and video self-modelling approaches. Additionally, we use smart glasses to record videos that promote mutual learning between surgeons and nurses and support the analysis and learning of simulated surgeries at universities. Furthermore, we focus on empowering students’ social-emotional competencies and are working to lay the foundations for scaling these approaches to medical residencies and nursing internships.

These innovative strategies not only enhance clinical practice but also contribute to the well-being and professional growth of healthcare workers, ensuring better care for patients and stronger healthcare systems. Our project aligns with this year’s IND theme by focusing on creating solutions that prioritise the well-being of nurses. By leveraging advanced ClinicalModelling techniques, we contribute to the creation of safer, more supportive work environments, fostering a culture of high performance and resilience. Supporting nurses through technology and professional development is essential not only for their personal well-being but also for the improvement of health systems and healthcare education globally.

As we celebrate International Nurses Day 2025, let’s acknowledge the essential role nurses play in healthcare and commit to providing them with the support they need to continue delivering exceptional care.

Thank you to all nurses for your dedication, compassion, and tireless work in improving the health and well-being of our communities.
