The ClinicalModelling project is thrilled to introduce the Training Toolkit for the Capacitation of Surgeons and Scrub Nurses on Using Smart Glasses: Participant’s Handbook. This comprehensive toolkit is specifically designed to equip healthcare professionals with the knowledge and practical skills necessary to integrate smart glasses into clinical settings, enhancing both individual competencies and team efficiency in surgeries.
Structured with both online and face-to-face components, the toolkit provides a flexible and immersive learning experience that includes original video content and digital resources, all carefully tailored to support the professional development of surgical teams. The toolkit is accessible in digital format on the project’s Moodle platform, serving as a user-friendly hub where participants can easily navigate and engage with the materials.

Innovative Digital and Face-to-Face Learning Experience
The online component is designed to require 12 to 15 hours of study, incorporating both asynchronous and synchronous stages. During the asynchronous phase, participants can engage in self-directed learning, covering essential themes such as digital learning technologies, continuous education, performance improvement, and safe, responsible use of smart glasses in clinical environments. These sessions emphasize patient safety, data security, and compliance with privacy regulations, preparing healthcare professionals for the practical demands of smart glasses integration.
The synchronous online session provides direct expert instruction on using smart glasses. This hands-on training allows participants to gain technical proficiency and confidence in operating this innovative technology within a clinical context.
Hands-On Training at Santa Maria Health School, Portugal
To reinforce the online learning, the toolkit includes a face-to-face component held at Santa Maria Health School in Porto, Portugal. This practical training spans three sessions, focusing on smart glasses usage, video editing procedures, and managing digital content on the project platform. These sessions are designed to provide real-world experience, allowing participants to apply their knowledge in a controlled environment before transferring it to clinical settings.
Building Community and Collaboration
The face-to-face component concludes with a networking session, bringing together participants, educators, project managers, and stakeholders. This gathering is an invaluable opportunity for collaboration and exchange of ideas, fostering a supportive network for integrating smart glasses technology within healthcare practices.
Advancing Healthcare with Smart Glasses
The Training Toolkit for the Capacitation of Surgeons and Scrub Nurses on Using Smart Glasses exemplifies the ClinicalModelling project’s commitment to advancing healthcare education and practice. By offering a comprehensive, flexible training plan, the toolkit not only enhances technical skills but also instils an understanding of the broader role of digital technologies in healthcare.
Through this initiative, ClinicalModelling empowers surgical teams to leverage smart glasses effectively, contributing to improved patient outcomes and a transformative approach to medical education. For more information on this training toolkit and other project developments, visit our LinkedIn.
